Portraiture by Thomas Carli Jarlier

Portraiture is one of the more technical approach to drawing or painting and tattooing. The reason for this is that you are not only just copying a picture but you need to capture the emotion and feel of the reference you are trying to copy. Understanding a reference is as important as being a very good technician. Any type of art become truly an « art » from the moment emotions start to be involved. Tattooing is the same than any other art forms. Tattooing has 2 sides technicality and emotion connection. One is nothing without the other and will make the difference with others when both are truly understood. I wouldn’t say mastered cause you never master an art form or you reached the end of the journey. It’s a lifelong exploration to your own limits to always push it to the next steps.

This piece is in progress on a Client from Ireland. The sleeve is on the theme of vintage cinema and should be finished this year at some point.

This is the work of 2 days with around 7h of work per days.

As usual I use my own machines and Inks that I develop with World Famous Ink for the Volcanic Tones and the Machines with Sunskin tattoo Equipment.
